Virtual Conference 2020 – The Human Past, Present and Future of IBM Z

Presenter: Reg Harbeck

Abstract
On April 7, 1964, IBM Announced System/360, the computing platform that changed history. And it was much more than mere technology. It was the culmination of humanity’s journey to computing, the platform that got the Apollo missions to the moon, and the place where many of the great IT disciplines such as capacity planning, security and disaster recovery were developed. Today, in addition to being the system of record for the world economy, the IBM mainframe continues to deepen and broaden its relevance for emerging workloads that advance the wellbeing of humanity.

In this presentation, Reg Harbeck will review that history, its relevance and role for our shared humanity, and what current and future prospects are for it to be the system of record beyond the foreseeable future.
