Application Performance Benchmarking within a CI/CD Pipeline – a CMG Be Curious session

What is the traditional approach to performance monitoring on the Mainframe? Industry professionals know that performance and cost evaluations are usually done in final stages during integration level testing. The simple act of performance monitoring is significantly more challenging at this stage of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Furthermore, if there are performance anomalies, it is even more difficult to discover their cause. At this point, highly skilled specialists are required to deal with the anomalies. Of course these specialists are hard to find and usually busy with other important IT matters, thus creating a slowdown in resolving the issues and creating a bottleneck.

An additional bottleneck occurs when production specialists need to communicate with development teams to advise them on how to fix the problem(s).

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Today there are ways to automate performance benchmark checks for any type of application change and automatically receive notifications when there is a problem.

This approach, now becoming the industry standard, reduces the risks of sudden CPU consumption spikes and/or significant I/O delays and their associated costs.
