Robert L. Morrison, age 90, of Poughkeepsie, NY, died at the White Plains Center for Nursing Care on January 5, 2025. Born on July 21,1934 in White Plains, NY, Mr. Morrison was the older of two sons of Nathan and Bertha Morrison. He graduated from White Plains High School in 1952 and from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics in 1956. In 1957, he married Anita Wisbrun Morrison, Cornell class of ’57.
Mr. Morrison attended Cornell on a Navy ROTC scholarship and upon graduation spent 4 years as a surface fleet officer aboard a destroyer escort and then a battleship. After serving out his military commitment, he went on to have a very successful career using mathematics and computer programming at NASA and then at IBM in Poughkeepsie. Mr. Morrison retired from the Naval Reserves as a Captain in Intelligence, and retired from IBM after more than 30 years.
Mr. Morrison was deeply involved in the Poughkeepsie community, serving on the board of trustees of Temple Beth-El for 10 years as well as singing with its choir. He also served on the Spackenkill School District Board of Education for 10 years, as Commander of the local chapter of Jewish War Veterans, and as a member and officer of the Computer Measurement Group, among other associations.
Robert L. Morrison passed away on Sunday, January 5th. He was a long-time member and active contributor of CMG. He was the national conference program chairman in 1977, national treasurer for four years, and a national director for two years. His association with CMG meant a great deal to him.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, Anita Morrison, class of ’57, Mr. Morrison is survived by three children, Laurie Baskin (Joshua Baskin), Kenneth Morrison (Amy Morrison), and Linda Morrison, and three grandchildren, Jeremy Baskin (Zoe Baskin), Daniel Baskin, Seth Morrison, and his brother, Richard Morrison (Joyce Siegel).
Mr. Morrison lived in Poughkeepsie for 60 years. He was devoted to his family, his faith, and his country. He will be laid to rest at Sharon Gardens Cemetery in Valhalla, NY, following a service at Temple Beth-El in Poughkeepsie on January 9, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. (noon).
