5 Ways AI Assists Project Managers
December 6, 2019System Performance Management and Capacity Planning
December 6, 2019On Thursday December 5, 2019, long time CMG member Dr. Bernard Domanski passed away. Dr. Bernie, as he was known by everyone, was one of the leaders in the field of computer performance evaluation and capacity planning.
Dr. Bernie was a Professor of Computer Science, researcher, consultant, and software developer. He was an early and very active member of the Computer Measurement Group. He served CMG in many capacities, including: Program Chair for many years for the annual conference; Conference General Chair; a driving force for many of CMG’s regional groups; and finally as CMG President. As President he led CMG through challenging times and changes in order to keep the organization relevant in computer measurement and management in the quickly evolving computer industry.
Dr. Bernie was a prolific writer of papers and treatises and traveled the world presenting his ideas and solutions. For all of his successes, he was a humble man. He was a great mentor and was always willing to give his time and energy as well as share his knowledge and insight.
Over the course of his career he was given many accolades. The award he was most proud of was CMG’s A. A. Michelson lifetime achievement award, which summed up his career in the field of computer sciences.
Dr. Bernie was one of the all time greats in our profession: a teacher, scholar, and innovator. His conference sessions were always among the most popular. CMG Past President Chuck Hopf remembered having to get the Anatole hotel in Dallas to enlarge a room to accommodate the crowd at one of his sessions.
Dr. Bernie had a sincere interest in training new people, particularly first-time attendees at CMG. He had time for everyone, was always upbeat, and had more fun at CMG events than just about everyone else.
CMG sends sincere condolences to the entire Domanski family.
