10:00 – 11:00 Mainframe innovation is finally on the move – Ken Steinhardt, Field CTO, Infinidat
Abstract: Attend this session to learn about a new solution that will provide you with performance and the flexibility to handle modern workloads without forgetting about your existing applications. At the same time, you’ll benefit from significantly improved ease-of-use, integration with your applications, and the ability to consolidate your older frames into a single floor tile.
Bio: Ken Steinhardt serves as Field CTO at Infinidat. He has held many different roles in the IT industry over the last 45 years, having started as a mainframe applications programmer and systems analyst, part-time when he was still in high school. After receiving his BS degree in Computer Science from WPI, Ken was at Digital Equipment Corporation for 16 years, EMC Corporation for 20 years, and most recently joined Infinidat from Pure Storage. His longest-tenured role was as EMC’s Vice President of Enterprise Storage & CTO for Global Product Sales. Specific to IBM Mainframes, Ken designed and implemented software for S/360 and S/370, managed DEC’s IBM mainframe competitive effort, and held multiple management and executive roles at EMC that entailed global responsibility for EMC’s mainframe storage business. He still has his original green S/360 instruction-set card.

Abstract: Model 9 is an alternative solution for mainframe tape backup vs. the traditional vendor hardware solutions. Jimmy will explain some of the solution, what it does, how it is set up and demos.
Bio: Jimmy joined Sirius in 2016. His eleven-year background in the IT industry includes mainframe hardware, storage, replication and high availability system solutions, SAN implementation, data center design and infrastructure architecture, as well as management of mainframe engineers. Jimmy is involved with pre-sale, implementation and post-sale services for new and used mainframes. This includes coordinating the entire preparation and installation of the mainframe. The level of detail of involvement is driven by the client. Jimmy’s background in replication and recovery in addition to mainframe hardware has been utilized early in his career at Sirius to assist in guiding client HA and recovery decisions as well as implementations. For the past year Jimmy has been involved with the research and implementation of Dataset Encryption and other security items under IBM’s Pervasive Encryption umbrella. Prior to joining Sirius, Jimmy held related roles at a large financial institution including mainframe hardware engineer, mainframe storage engineer, and mainframe storage engineering team
manager. As a hardware engineer he was responsible for managing five data centers with mainframe footprints totaling nearly one million MIPS, over 100 Brocade fiber directors, and 80 DASD subsystems as well as the data center fiber infrastructure for the mainframe environment. During his tenure in storage engineering, he led the implementation of the first IBM GDPS foursite replication environment in a customer site and four
subsequent implementations. Jimmy was involved in numerous sessions with IBM Labs in Poughkeepsie, Montpellier and Tucson as well as Brocade labs to develop and enhance mainframe, Fibre Channel director, and storage products.
